so the girls looked on pinterest for a dessert recipe and found a photo of a mini apple pie baked in the apple itself. they clicked, and found this one at just a pinch.
in a’s words:
scoop out the middle of the apple. pitch the core, save the rest and chop it up with extra peeled apple. stir in cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg (we left out the brown sugar and added the nutmeg.) scoop it back into the apple.
the crust is just flour, salt, butter, and cinnamon. maybe a little sugar. we mixed and rolled it and sliced into little strips. we made the strips into lattice tops with it.
you bake it in a dish with a little water, first covered with foil and then without. **we did notice that if you aren’t careful, the apples fall into the water, so on the second batch we put the individual apples into glass baking dishes.
these are yummy!
